DESCRIPTION:
Extreme Training with one of the leading Shakespeare theatres in the nation. A rigorous ten-week program, the Acting Apprenticeship provides an opportunity to focus on one’s individual needs as an actor, while providing necessary exposure to all aspects of professional theatre, both as an art form and as a business.
CLASSES: Regular conservatory style classes include Acting/Shakespeare Scene Study, Voice/Speech, Text Analysis, Stage Combat, Viewpoints/Movement for the Actor, and Play Reading. In addition, specialized master classes are scheduled throughout the summer to supplement training. Past sessions have included: Audition Technique, Commedia, Clowning, and Moliere/Styles.
CREW ASSIGNMENTS (technical, administrative, or running crew) round out the Training Program experience by providing valuable exposure to the technical and administrative aspects of professional theatre. Crew assignments are a small but integral and vital part of the Apprentice experience, and are balanced with classes, rehearsals, and performances.
GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES are available in The Spotlight Series, in which Apprentices perform in three scene-night/showcase presentations and The Final Project, which showcases all members of The Apprentice Company as they perform an abridged, fully-produced Shakespeare play.
ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES are possible for Apprentices on the Main Stage, Outdoor Stage, and in independent Late-Nite projects created by members of the Intern Company. EMC-points may be available for Apprentices who are cast in Main Stage and Outdoor Stage productions.
“The quality of training and performance opportunities vastly surpassed my expectations.”
“There is no better classical training program in the nation that nurtures and challenges artists.”
Take the summer on, and push your craft to the next level with The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s Shakespeare Acting Apprenticeship.
