THE PUBLIC THEATER is theater of, by, and for all people. We are seeking a collaborative and creative technician to join our Lighting Department. The Public’s wide breadth of programming includes an annual season of new work in six venues including Free Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. The Public continues to create the canon of American theater and is currently represented on Broadway by Girl From The North Country. Our programs and productions can also be seen regionally across the country and around the world. The Public Theater seeks an Assistant Lighting Supervisor, one of four assistants responsible for coordinating and executing lighting plans for assigned projects including mainstage productions at The Public’s 425 Lafayette Street theater complex as well as Free Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Assistant Lighting Supervisors find innovative and creative ways of managing resources to turn our designers’ visions into reality.

Key Accountabilities:
• Coordinate with the Lighting Supervisor, designers, and other departments to advance lighting plots
• Act as Production Electrician for assigned shows
• Supervise show Master Electrician teams to prep, hang, and focus lighting equipment
• Manage budgets for labor and materials on assigned projects
• Research, prepare, and implement practical projects for shows on varying scales
• Work with other production departments to facilitate efficient load-ins
• Help to recruit and train freelance labor
• Obtain quotes for and purchase equipment and materials
• Maintain and inventory equipment
• Work to improve department processes and procedures
• Promote and enforce safe workmanship and working conditions
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Experience in Master Electrician roles on large-scale productions
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Lightwright, and Vectorworks
• Understanding of basic lighting programming and show networking, especially ETC systems
• Knowledge of basic theater rigging and modern lighting equipment
• Strong supervisory skills, organization and attention to detail
• Adept communication and customer service competencies
• Ability to maintain calm demeanor under pressure in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines
• Long weeks and days plus evening and weekend hours required during tech and previews for assigned projects
