Feeling a little blue? Seeking a cure for your "non-specific sadness"?

Cincinnati Music Theatre (CMT) has just what the doctor ordered. Join us May 6-14, 2011 at the Aronoff Center's Jarson-Kaplan Theater for our rousing production of The Drowsy Chaperone. This affectionate valentine to musical theatre focuses on Man in Chair, a mousy Broadway fanatic and our narrator, seeking a cure for his "non-specific sadness" by listening to a recording of his favorite 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. As he listens to this rare recording, his imagination takes flight and the fictional musical magically comes to life in his apartment, complete with impressive sets, glittering costumes, painted backdrops, and a colorful cast of characters.

Tickets are on sale now at www.CincinnatiArts.ORG, (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office.

The Drowsy Chaperone, the show-within-the-show, or better yet "a musical-within-a-comedy," tells the story of an impending wedding, those characters who would seek to stop it, and those characters who become accidentally involved in the details. This hilarious homage to Jazz Age musicals incorporates mistaken identity, dream sequences, monkeys, spit takes and, of course, the Drowsy Chaperone herself.

Bringing this colorful cast of characters to life are Van Ackerman as "Man in Chair," Katie Eichler as a bride giving up the stage for love, Brandon Fox as her debonair bridegroom, Dianna L. Davis as the "Drowsy Chaperone," Wayne Wright as a Latin lothario, Marcie Brooks as a dizzy dowager, Bud Walters as her long-suffering butler, Ron Burrage as everyone's best man, Bill Geraghty as a harried producer, Jen McGuire as a flaky chorine, Patrick Carnes and Greg Good as a pair of gangsters posing as pastry chefs, Cathy Ross as the high-flying aviatrix, and Robert Workley as the Superintendant. Rounding out the cast is an eight member ensemble of familiar names and faces: Jen Drake, Charlie Greer, Katie Heinrich, Adam Marzheuser, Sarah Mizelle, Tony Springs, Robert Workley and Meghan Zlatic.

The Drowsy Chaperone features a Tony® Award-winning book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and a Tony® Award-winning score by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. CMT's production is being produced by Kathy Beiting and directed by Skip Fenker with choreography by SONJA HANSEN, musical direction by Charles Wilhelm, and vocal direction by Xan Jeffery.
