New Edgecliff Theatre proudly opens its 2013-2014 season with the classic American comedy, Bus Stop, on September 18. Directed by Jared Doren, this charming romantic tale has been delighting audiences since its Broadway debut in 1955. "It's inspiring, warm, and funny," says Jim Stump, Producing Artistic Director. "Bus Stop is the perfect opening for our 16th season."

Written by William Inge, Bus Stop tells the story of Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse, who becomes stuck on a bus leaving Kansas City in the middle of a snowstorm. With all roads blocked, passengers must spend the night in a cheerful roadside diner. However, having been pursued, made love to and, finally, kidnapped by a twenty-one-year-old cowboy, Cherie is desperately looking for a way out. This belligerent cowhand has other ideas and is ready to sling her over his shoulder and carry her, alive and kicking, all the way to Montana.

"This is a comedy about ordinary people traveling on a misguided pathway toward love and it's a perfect opener for our 'Best Laid Plans' season," adds Devon Campailla, Managing Director. "The nature of love, the capacity for generosity, and the innocence of the human heart all combine to make this an endearing play and a landmark in American theatre."

The production marks the return of several actors familiar to NET audiences - Bob Allen, Don Volpenhein, Christine Dye, Mindy Heithaus, and David Roth. In addition, Bus Stop is the NET stage debut for locals David Levy, Tyler Alessi, and Tess Talbot.

Bus Stop will run from September 18-28 at 7:30pm.
