Tomorrow night, January 23, Know Theatre opens the first full production of Maragret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale as adapted by playwright (and Cincinnati Native) Joe Stollenwerk.
Directed by Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Producing Artistic Director Brian Isaac Phillips and starring CSC Company member Corinne Mohlenhoff, this solo performance is an epic tale of what it takes to survive:
In the near future, what's left of the United States has become a theocracy known as the Republic of Gilead. As with many women in Gilead, Offred has had her name and family taken from her and been forced to become a Handmaid, a vessel for population growth, valued only for her viable ovaries. Amidst the oppressive new regime, and armed with memories of life before the revolution, Offred struggles to maintain her individuality, personhood, and hope for a better possible future.
This production showcases the talents of husband-and-wife team Brian Isaac Phillips and Corinne Mohlenhoff. Creating the world for the show is Know Theatre's resident design team: scenic and lighting designer Andrew Hungerford, Costume Designer Noelle Wedig, and Sound Designer Doug Borntrager.
Tickets are still available for tomorrow night's Opening night performance of The Handmaid's Tale (January 23 at 8 PM). The Handmaid's Tale runs through February 21, 2015 on the Know Theatre MainStage. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM.
