Know Theatre staff and Board of Trustees announce the hiring of Haley Elkins as Managing Director as of January 1, 2011. Most recently, Ms. Elkins served as the Operations and Human Resource Manager at Cincinnati Ballet. Ms. Elkins is a Texas native who earned her Bachelor of Arts in English literature, technical writing, and women's studies at the University of North Texas. Haley has volunteered with Know Theatre in various capacities since 2006.
Producing Artistic Director Eric Vosmeier says, "It's taken a while to fill this position because frankly, I'm a bit picky. I wanted to make sure that we found the right person for the organization and for the team we have in place. Haley is that person. She has been a part of Know Theatre's extended family for a while and we're incredibly excited that she has come on board as Managing Director."
"Know Theatre was the first arts organization I came in contact with when I moved to Cincinnati in 2006, and I was struck by how open their doors were for community members to make a contribution in a meaningful way," says Haley. "Know Theatre is all about connection - connecting audiences to new work, connecting organizations to one another, connecting emerging arts administrators to their passion, and connecting performers and writers to their craft. When people ask me about innovative arts administration, I've always told them to keep their eye on Know Theatre; they're truly changing the way arts organizations interact within their communities. It's more than admirable - it's exhilarating - and I'm exceedingly grateful to become a part of it."
Prior to joining Know Theatre, she served as Operations and Human Resource Manager for Cincinnati Ballet, where she further refined her board development and facilities management skills. She has worked in box office management, production management, marketing, and development for various arts and service non-profits across the United States, including Parker Square Playhouse (Flower Mound, TX), Murchison Performing Arts Center (Denton, TX), New Stage Collective (Cincinnati, OH), Feminist Majority Foundation (Washington, D.C.), the National Council of Women's Organizations (Washington, D.C.), Younger Women's Task Force: D.C. Metro (Washington, D.C.), and ActivateHER (Arlington, VA).
She is currently a Trustee Emeritus for the Texas Equal Access Fund, a member of 85 Broads, Vice Chair for the Junior League of Cincinnati Online Committee, and sits on the Board of Directors at Bake Me Home, a charitable organization dedicated to promoting volunteerism and providing disadvantaged moms and kids with direct services that encourage shared family experiences. She's a former member of the Society for Human Resource Managers and the International Association of Assembly Managers. A Girl Scout for ten years, she's passionate about "leaving the world a better place than you found it," and endeavors daily to do so through non-profit management.
Vosmeier adds, "Haley brings a great deal of experience in a number of areas that will help propel Know Theatre forward. Her dedication to her community and her desire to work collaboratively is a perfect fit for us. She is the person I've been looking for since we began searching for a managing director and I can't wait to see what we can do together."
