Glory, fate, revenge and homecoming take center stage in Playhouse in the Park's production of DIS/TROY, featuring the Bruce E. Coyle Acting Intern Company. The production will perform "Off the Hill" at 16 community centers across the region from
January 15 through February 19.
DIS/TROY is an extraordinary theatrical adaptation of Homer's THE ILIAD by playwright Yokanaan Kearns, set during the Trojan War. The Greek warrior hero Achilles refuses to fight, leading to disastrous results for both the Greeks and the Trojans. Dramatic scenes in the mortal world alternate with comic scenes on Mount Olympus, where the gods are fighting their own, often ridiculous "war" to see which side will win. Funny, lively and accessible, DIS/TROY retains the eloquence and complexity of Homer's well-known classic. It's recommended for ages 10 and up.
The cast of DIS/TROY includes Kevin-Michael Chu as Achilles/Aphrodite, Matthew David Gellin as Agamemnon/Hector/Zeus, Colin Gold as Patroclus/Priam/Hera and Marie Pope as Andromache/Ares.
Education Director Mark Lutwak directs. Other members of the production team include Christopher Boone (Set Designer), Kathe James (Costume Designer), Veronica Bishop (Technical Director), Jen Lampson (Props Designer), Sebastian Botzow (Sound Designer), Jonn Baca (Fight Choreographer), Karie-Lee Sutherland (Dance Choreographer) and Grace Rockstroh (Stage Manager).
DIS/TROY will also tour area middle and high schools from January 18 through
February 18. For a full listing of community centers, visit www.cincyplay.com or contact the Education Department at 513/345-2242.
Off the Hill is made possible by ArtsWave Presents & The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation and The John A. Schroth Family Charitable Trust, PNC Bank, Trustee.
