Cincinnati Shakespeare Summer Camp 2012 Registration Closes This Week

Shakespeare Summer Camp is a one-week theater day camp for middle school and high school students who want to learn more about the art of theatre. Campers work with members of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Resident Ensemble (including Actor's Equity members), learning acting, stage combat, movement, and text analysis for the actor. This exciting camp has grown into a three-tiered program for students of all levels of experience. Hosted by Xavier University in the Gallagher Student Center, registration for 2012 closes this week. Camp I: Generation Shakespeare
Dates: JUNE 11-JUNE 15, 2012
Open to students who have completed 6th & 7th grade only

Generation Shakespeare includes classes in acting, combat, set and costume construction, text analysis, and movement for students who have complete 6th & 7th grade. The students will work together as an ensemble to create an original production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Students will be put into groups to work on different scenes in "Midsummer". If your student was in Camp 1 last year, they will be placed in a different scene this year! Open to students who have completed 6th or 7th grade only.

Camp Tuition: $260
Tuition also includes a t-shirt, daily snacks, and Friday pizza party for every camper.

Camp II: Random Acts of Shakespeare
Dates: JUNE 18-22, 2012
Open to students who have completed 8th & 9th grade only

Random Acts of Shakespeare allows students to experience in-depth study of various scenes from Shakespeare's canon. This camp is geared towards 8th & 9th grade students for an intermediate study of Shakespearean text. Acting methods, and stage combat are explored, as well as introduction to other drama skills such as improvisation. Students are placed in different scenes from Shakespeare's canon. Open to students who have completed 8th - 9th grade only.

Camp Tuition: $270
Tuition also includes a t-shirt, daily snacks, and Friday pizza party for every camper.

Camp III: The Shakespeare Intensive
Dates: JUNE 25-29, 2012
Open to students who have completed 10th, 11th & 12th grade only

In The Shakespeare Intensive, campers will stage iconic scenes from the Bard's romances, tragedies, and comedies. Advanced study of Shakespearean text and acting will be emphasized, with special workshops in acting techniques like Viewpoints and mask work. Must commit to memorizing roles in advance. Open to students who have completed 10th-12th grade only.

Camp Tuition: $280
Tuition also includes a t-shirt, daily snacks, and Friday pizza party for every camper.

Auditions for Camp 2 & 3
Auditions have passed- contact Jeanna 513.381.2273 x. 3202 if your student is interested in Camps 2 or 3. Camp 1 does not require an audition.

A discount is offered for siblings attending Shakespeare Summer Camp as well as students who chose to attend 2 weeks of camp. The discount policy is as follows: when one sibling registers at full price, a second sibling may register at a 15% discount, or the discount applies to the 2nd camp. The discount applies to the lesser of the two camp tuitions, if applicable. Savings range from $27.50 to $40.50, depending on the camps chosen. Campers need not attend the same session to receive the sibling discount.

The full amount or a $100 deposit must be paid at the time of registration to hold your spot. The balance is due by June 1, 2012. Details on how to pay are covered in the registration process. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. PMake checks payable to Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. New this year, you may pay online here.

Please note: Campers must pack their own lunch each day. Two daily snacks are provided, as well as a pizza dinner on Friday before the final performance.

The camp takes place at the Gallagher Student Center Theater at Xavier University and runs daily Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm. Performance for family & friends is 7pm on Friday of each camp week.
