Cincinnati Young People's Theatre has announced audition dates for its 2010 summer musical, Les Miserables. Auditions will take place May 8th-10th at Covedale Center for the Performing Arts, 4990 Glenway Avenue. Auditions are by appointment only and can be set up as early as Monday, March 15, 2010. To set up an audition appointment email Jennifer Perrino, Producer at jenniferperrino@covedalecenter.com or call the box office at 513-241-6550.
Auditionees must be 13 - 19 years of age at the time of the audition, and should arrive 15-20 minutes before the scheduled audition time. Audition times include: May 8th at 10:00AM, 11:00AM, 1:00PM and 2:00 PM , May 9th at 1:00PM, 2:00PM and 3:00PM, and May 10th at 6:30PM, 7:30PM, 8:30PM and 9:30PM.
To audition, prepare a musical theatre song and bring sheet music for the accompanist. Dress appropriately as auditionees will be required to complete a dance audition. Since this story is told entirely through music, choose an audition song that demonstrates singing and acting ability. There will be no monologues or script readings at auditions. All auditionees must complete both parts of the audition process (singing and dancing). If both areas are not completed, then he/she will not be considered for a role in the show.
This epic story recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes an honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father - violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man hopelessly in love with Valjean's adopted daughter, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed.
