Selladoor Worldwide will tour a brand-new production of Tony, Olivier and Grammy Award-winning musical Jersey Boys this fall across China.
Set to take the world by storm in 2017, they embark on an international tour opening at Dubai Opera in October before moving on to China's Shanghai Daning Theatre, The Jiangsu Centre For The Performing Arts, Guangzhou Opera House and Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre, with further international venues to be announced.
The tour of Jersey Boys marks Selladoor Worldwide's first solely International tour following visits to Hong Kong, the UAE, Singapore and Qatar with productions Avenue Q, James and The Giant Peach and Seussical since 2014.
Just this week Selladoor Worldwide have signed a contract to work with Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment to present a new production of hilarious musical comedy The Producers, based on Mel Brooks' much loved Academy Award winning movie, again set to tour China later this year.
Since beginning its life in 2009 Selladoor Worldwide has produced an impressive portfolio of work, developing rapidly to establish themselves as a leading producer of mid and large-scale touring theatre. They have fast become an integral part of the regional theatre landscape in the UK & Ireland. For 2017 it has even bigger aspirations as David Hutchinson, Executive Creative Producer of Selladoor Worldwide explains:
'Having established relationships and toured work into 5 territories, we are continuously looking to expand that network and our ambition to grow our international touring offer is becoming ever more a reality. With the tour of Jersey Boys and The Producers, we are making huge steps towards achieving our goal to present work to the widest possible audience. We are committed to expanding our connections and goals internationally and in the wake of turbulent political horizons are driven to continue to break down cultural borders and build solid worldwide partnerships'
For Selladoor this isn't just hyperbole. In the wake of recent political events, their post Brexit and post Trump strategy focuses on the need to work even more closely in collaboration across borders in the EU and further afield than ever before.
Attesting to these principles Selladoor has just opened a UK tour of The Crucible in an innovative partnership with Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch and Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, with performances scheduled for Luxemburg in April, whilst their hugely successful tour of Footloose is scheduled to visit Belgium in the summer.
this year the company established a permanent office in New York with the intention of fostering new cultural relationships and creating a more fluid conversation for Broadway and Fringe opportunities in the US. Selladoor has recently recruited a new Senior Producer, Sandra Garcia, an expert in developing international relationships from her previous role as Touring Producer at Sadlers Wells ,whose focus will be dedicated to nurturing engagement and partnerships with Selladoor on an international scale.
Phillip Rowntree Executive Commercial Producer for Selladoor Worldwide says "A priority for Selladoor is to be a leading Producer of theatre at an international level. Over the last year Selladoor has been the UK General Management for Vienna's English Theatre, the oldest and most establishEd English-language theatre in continental Europe, and we look to continue this relationship in the coming years. And while many of our productions have had an international life, as we begin to develop productions that will be exclusively performed outside of the UK the importance of a dynamic and skilled team across the globe is ever more important. The opening of our New York Office and the appointment of Sandra alongside our ever expanding UK team affirms our strong commitment to delivering an international annual season of work."
David Hutchinson continues: 'The previous year has been a period of exponential growth for Selladoor both in the breadth and scale of our productions, presenting work to nearly half a million theatre goers co-producing with five exciting new partners, but also as a team, which has increased from just 6 core staff members to 15 in one year.'
'2017 brings fresh challenges and fresh opportunities, but most importantly we have a team of creative people, partners and associates all united in one aim - to create daring, dynamic and diverse theatre to be enjoyed worldwide.'
The Jersey Boys International tour opens at Dubai Opera 09 - Nov 2017 and continues to tour into 2018. The Producers tour dates to be announced.
