Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDC) has announced the line-up of its Dance Season 2020/21.
The design of the season brochure merges subtle dance postures with geometric lines to illustrate the beauty of contemporary art. The '39' on the cover, together with the recurrent programme titles and interconnecting image frames, symbolize our unwavering perseverance in celebrating and promoting dance as an art form throughout the 39 years since our establishment. These elements finally lead to the '40' on the last page, which is a herald of HKDC proudly stepping into its 40th year.
Inspiring programmes in the new season include:Original musical A Tale of the Southern Sky, a tour de force production in collaboration with Actors' Family; The Last Dance, a contemporary fusion of dance and literature choreographed by renowned artist Mui Cheuk Yin; and Mazu the Sea Goddess, a grand dance drama co-directed by National First Class Artist Yan Hongxia and HKDC's Artistic Director Yang Yuntao. Moreover, the three-year 'Research study on Chinese martial arts and Chinese dance'will be presenting its observations at West Kowloon Cultural District. Young talents are encouraged to participate in the Children and Youth Dance Festival 2020 - Dancing World: Our Dream, Our Stage for a wide variety of educational activities.
HKDC will continue to promote Chinese dance with a global vision. L'Amour Immortel, which was performed in Shanghai and Hangzhou last year, will be on tour again - this award-winning dance drama will soon be performed close to 30 shows worldwide. We have invited South Korean and Yanbian choreographers to present a folk dance gala Myth of the Dancing Durumi. Dancers and choreographers from Singapore and Taiwan will showcase their distinctive cultures in City to City: Rediscovery alongside HKDC's artistic team, celebrating the fine traditions of Chinese Dance.
