After receiving standing ovations at every performance, award-winning Theatre Nebula’s production of the hilarious and satirical, Urinetown, The Musical will enter its final performances through June 12 with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m., at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 East Wood Street, Palatine, Ill.
“We are thrilled that audiences have been overwhelmed with the talent of our cast and the work of the production staff and musicians, “said J. Spencer Greene, Theatre Nebula Artistic Director and the Executive producer and Scenic Designer of the show. “This professional cast, production staff, crew, and musicians has rocked the house every performance and audiences have rewarded them with standing ovations.” Audience members agreed, saying, "Theatre Nebula's Opening night of Urinetown was fabulous! Exquisite talent! Leading man, David Geinosky, is more than a triple threat! He can do everything and do it with such astonishing grace and beauty! This young man belongs on Broadway! It's a top-notch production." Others stated, "One of the best shows I have ever seen! Outstanding cast! The set looks fabulous! If you enjoy musicals, this show is a MUST SEE.”
Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critic's Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, and two Obie Awards, Urinetown, the Musical is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective of one of America's greatest art forms. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit, and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.
Theatre Nebula, which was the recipient of the Illinois Theatre Association’s Excellence in Theatre award, has put together the same team that brought to the area the hit productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Rocky Horror Show, and Spamalot! The veteran Chicago-area production team consists of Director Kevin Wiczer, Choreographer Kara Williams, Music Director Kenneth McMullen, Scenic Designer J. Spencer Greene, Scenic Painter David Geinosky, Costume Designer Lisa Hale, Lighting Designer Kevin Wiczer and Steve Nickerson, and Properties Designer Kristen Foley. The Executive producer is J. Spencer Greene, and Stage Manager is Tom Hermanson.
The incredibly talented cast consists of Tony Calzaretta, Adam Diamond, Amanda Diamond, David Geinosky, Deric Anthony Gochenauer, Julia Macholl, Anthony Mele, Annie Nowicki, Don J. Orlando, Laural Reinhart, Chuck Sisson, Amy Steele, Denise Tamburrino, Andrew J. Thayer, Marie Warner, and Jason Williams.
