The playwrights of Dearly Departed and The Dixie Swim Club invite you to a family reunion. In this Southern-fried comedy the Verdeen cousins - Gaynelle, Peaches, and Jimmie Wyvette - have agreed to host the annual gathering of the wildly eccentric Verdeen clan. Self-righteous aunt LaMerle reminds them that the eyes of Texas are upon them, with good reason. Gaynelle has been found innocent of deliberately crashing her car into her ex-husband's girlfriend's double wide but she must still prove her sanity to a court appointed psychologist. Peaches, the number one mortuarial cosmetologist in the tri-county area, is declaring her long lost, long haul trucker husband dead, and Jimmie, the rough around the edges manager of Whatley's Western Wear, is resorting to extreme measures for the affections of Sweetgum's newest widower. Can things get any worse after a neighbor's pet devours the food, a one-eyed suitor declares his love, and a high stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake? Well, it is the hottest day of July and we are smack dab in the middle of the Texas tornado season. Grab your measuring cups. It is a bitter battle for the better batter! Who's bringing the three-bean salad?
