Re-Writing the Declaration is a participatory, devised play that takes audiences on an imaginative journey to 1776 through the perspectives of a class of Black women and non-binary individuals of color. This thought-provoking production challenges the notion of inclusion in the founding documents by exploring themes of gender, race, and sexual orientation. The show is presented by the GovState Theatre and Performance Studies program, aiming to spark conversations about the past and its implications for contemporary society.
