Williams Street Repertory is excited to bring a gleefully gruesome Broadway smash musical to downtown Crystal Lake with their upcoming production of "Little Shop of Horrors." This campy musical based on the 1960s cult horror film opens on October 6, 2017 at Raue Center For The Arts and runs select dates through October 29, 2017.
"This story could not be more relevant. Every day each of us faces moments where we can choose to 'feed the plant' by giving into the temptation, putting our own desires above those of someone else," says Director, Joe Lehman. "This darkly comic story plays out where giving into this temptation can lead us. The message of 'Don't Feed the Plants,' or don't feed our greed, our fear, or our ego is always necessary, whether it leads only to a world with less goodness in it or to a world where the plants eat Cleveland. Don't feed the plants!"
This darkly funny musical follows meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn, who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" after his co-worker crush. This R&B -singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour, as long as he keeps feeding it - BLOOD! Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this-world origins and intent toward global domination! This campy musical based on the 1960s cult horror film has devoured the hearts of theatregoers for over 30 years!
"We are so proud of this production. 'Little Shop of Horrors' is bound to be a huge hit and a fun night out! We are really thankful to the talent for making this one of the best musicals we have produced," says Founding Artistic Director, Richard Kuranda. "It's one thing to draw audiences out of Chicago - It's another to draw talent! This should be a great run. Get your tickets while you can!"
