Williams Street Repertory, McHenry County's only professional theater company, is excited to bring A.R. Gurney's Pulitzer Prize nominated drama, "Love Letters," to downtown Crystal Lake. This bittersweet epistolary romance opens on February 9, 2018 at Raue Center For The Arts and runs through February 11, 2018.

"I'm happy that we are finally able to mount 'Love Letters' for Valentine's Day," says Founding Artistic Director Richard Kuranda. "It's a unique theatrical event that is remarkable and truly emotional."

When Andrew Makepeace Ladd III accepts an invitation to Melissa Gardner's birthday party and she writes him a thank you note, a romantic friendship and correspondence destined to last for almost half a century are born. Gurney's two-character play follows the relationship between a stuffy W.A.S.P. and a free-spirited woman, throughout their lives from childhood to death, as chronicled in the letters they write to each other.

WSR's production of "Love Letters" is directed by Robin M. Hughes. The two-character drama features Shannon Mayhall as Melissa and Frank Gaughan+  as Andrew.

"I love working with Frank Gaughan! This will be my third time on stage with him and we have often said to each other that we have each other's back," says Mayhall, who received the 2016 BroadwayWorld Chicago Award for Best Actress in a Play (Resident Equity) for her role in WSR's "Death of a Salesman."

WSR's simply staged, intimate production of "Love Letters" opens on February 9, 2018 on Raue Center's mainstage, complete with on-stage bar and drink selection, and runs through February 11, 2018.

Tickets to "Love Letters" start at $15 for general admission, $10.50 for RaueNOW members or $6 for students ages 18 and under. For student discounts and group rates (10 or more) please call the Raue Center Box Office at 815.356.9212. For more information, visit wsrep.org.

WSR is a member of Theatre Communications Group, the national organization for the American theatre. TCG has existed to strengthen, nurture and promote the professional not-for-profit American theatre for over 50 years.
