WSRep Announces Cast For World Premiere Of BOMBER'S MOON

Williams Street Repertory (Founding Artistic Director Richard Kuranda) is excited to announce the world premiere of Deborah Yarchun's (2017 - 2018 Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellow, ) "Bomber's Moon" at Raue Center For The Arts. An homage to 1930s films with a contemporary twist, this dark, romantic and intense two-character drama explores identity, isolation and encounters that can alter the course of one's life. "Bomber's Moon" opens September 28, 2018, and runs select dates through October 21, 2018.

"There is nothing more useful to an emerging playwright than having their work produced," says Yarchun. "WSRep is bestowing that honor to me in the fall with the world premiere of my play, which was read at its LAB Series last summer. I couldn't be more thrilled."

Yarchun's play "Great White" was presented as part of Capital Stage Company's Playwrights' Revolution Series in 2018 and earned an Honorable Mention for the American Playwriting Foundation's 2016 Relentless Award. Yarchun was also a playwright-in-residence at the William Inge Center for the Arts in 2017. An excerpt of a new work by Yarchun will be presented through the Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellows Showcase on October 15, 2018 (Playwrights Horizons) and her play "The Man in the Sukkah" will be included in Theatre Ariel's 2018 - 2019 Salon Series.

"New play development is among the most creatively rewarding work I have ever been a part of, both as an actor and a director," says Director and WSRep Ensemble Member Michele Vazquez. "It's thrilling to be a part of the creative process that brings a play to its first production, a world premiere." Vazquez's recent credits include a guest appearance on NBC's "Chicago Med" and "A Christmas Carol" (Goodman Theatre). Her previous work with WSRep includes "A Streetcar Named Desire" and the regional premiere of "Any Other Name." Vazquez also directed WSRep's mainstage production of "Art" during the 2016 - 2017 season.

Set during the London Blitz, two lives are forever changed in "Bomber's Moon." After a devastating discovery, Katrin, an American socialite, seeks shelter in the basement of an abandoned music shop during the air raids. There she encounters Lloyd, a displaced, working-class East Ender. Over four charged, complicated nights sheltering in the music shop, Lloyd and Katrin find themselves connected in ways they never imagined. Everything becomes clear during a bomber's moon.

"With a two-hander, the chemistry between the actors both onstage and off is crucial," says Vazquez.

"I am attracted to stories that explore relationships and how rubbing up against other personalities ultimately reveals and shapes who we are as human beings," she continues. "Our reactions to the people we encounter reveal more about who we are and what we are struggling with, rather than the other person. I love watching that internal struggle play out onstage."

"Bomber's Moon" features Meaghan Looney as Katrin. Looney's recent credits include "Boeing Boeing" (Metropolis Performing Arts Center), "My Name is Annie King" (Underscore Theatre), "Private Eyes" (Piccolo Theatre) "The House of Mirth" and "The Importance of Being Earnest" (Dead Writers Collective).

WSRep's production of "Bomber's Moon" also features David Moreland as Lloyd. Moreland's recent credits include "Bridges of Madison County" (BrightSide Theatre), "Jaques Brel's Lonesome Losers of the Night" (Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre), "Miss Saigon" (Theatre Tulsa), "The Last Five Years" and "Big Fish" (Big Noise Theatre).
