Victory Gardens Presents MeTube, 11/12 & 13

Victory Gardens will present beatbox harmonica virtuoso Yuri Lane in MeTube, written and directed by Rachel Havrelock, with live visuals by Sharif Ezzat. MeTube is presented in partnership with the Chicago Humanities Festival and is part of Victory Gardens Fresh Squeezed Series 2011-12 season. MeTube will run Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 7:30PM in the Zacek-McVay Theater at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Park.

What is it like to be an overnight Internet sensation? Chicago beatboxer Yuri Lane knows all about it. His Beatbox Harmonica video, featuring his extraordinary talent, went viral on YouTube, garnering millions of hits and making him an instant star in cyberspace. MeTube, his new multimedia beatbox show, reflects on this exhilarating and strange experience by turning virtual reality into theatrical fantasy. Created with Sharif Ezzat and Rachel Havrelock, Yuri lane brings Fresh Squeezed his unique brand of beatbox Theater.

Yuri Lane is a world-renowned solo beatbox performer who combines beatbox, acting, mime and movement to tell a story. With his creative partner Sharif Ezzat and his wife Rachel Havrelock, Yuri created From Tel Aviv to Ramallah, a hip-hop play that tackles the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. From Tel Aviv to Ramallah had its world premiere at Theater J in Washington DC in 2003, where it was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for best new play. The show enjoyed runs in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Baltimore and Atlanta. It toured across the US at theaters, campuses, and peace events. International venues include Helsinki, London and Jerusalem. Yuri is famous on the internet for his beatbox harmonica with over 17 million views on YouTube, which inspired MeTube. Throughout the season, Victory Gardens Fresh Squeezed Series will be exploring the impact of Hip-Hop and Spoken Word on contemporary culture as well a presenting special performances in conjunction with Mainstage programming and the return of some favorite events.

MeTube will take place at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue, in the heart of Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. All tickets are $20.
