Theatre Momentum scheduling auditions
For its upcoming showcase

Theatre Momentum is currently scheduling auditions for its upcoming showcase, opening in mid-August at the Bailiwick Theater. Last year, Theatre Momentum mounted two showcases of three shows each; this year they are shifting to two shows per showcase, with new rounds of auditions every 8 weeks or so. Individual shows have the opportunity to extend their runs after the showcases. One of last year's shows, Fugue, will be remounted later this year.  Check out these auditions:

Jigsaw: A story in pieces

The show's progression will resemble the construction of a jigsaw puzzle, with four "corner pieces", the main characters of the story, giving opening monologues. This will follow with "border pieces" scenes- illustrating the close relationships of the main characters, and then scenes that fill in the rest of the "puzzle" of the show's narrative. It is a story told out of sequence and in chunks, in such a way that the audience gets the whole picture by at the close of the show.

Directed by Rob Kozlowski

Rob Kozlowski has been teaching comedy writing at the Second City Training Center since May 2003. He studied improv in the early 90's at the Second City Training Center and ImprovOlympic and was a founding member of The Playground Theatre in 1997, performing with founding ensembles Cinco de Bob and Ordinary Madness. He was the co-writer and director of the sketch play Personal Disasters, and has coached the improv ensembles Plain Cake Donuts, You Burned Our House, Objection Sustained and The Parsifal Mosaic. Rob was also the assistant director of Single Box Turn Productions' Little House on the Parody in its original Chicago production. He's written the books 'The Actor's Guide to the Internet' and 'The Art of Chicago Improv, is a network playwright at Chicago Dramatists, a member of the Hermits' Tea Party, and is the proud owner of a relatively meaningless but nonetheless pretty B.A. in film and video with an emphasis in screenwriting from Columbia College Chicago.

Mixtape: Every song has a story

This show explores the subtext of a mixtape songs, for the mixer and the recipient. The show will open, close, and be punctuated/scored by a single player singing the songs put into a "mixtape" their character has made for a friend/spouse/loved one. The scenes that intersperse will express the meaning behind the chosen songs, the stories the mixtape-mixer was thinking of, and hopefully tell a bit of the story of the mixer and tape's recipient. Please plan to have a few verses of a song memorized, for your callback.

Directed by Amanda Rountree

Amanda Rountree has been performing improvisational theatre professionally since 1992, teaching since 1998, and directing since 2002. She relocated to Chicago this past summer from Seattle where she was a performer and instructor with Unexpected Productions and a performer and co-artistic director of Playback Theater Northwest.
