Transgressive Theatre-Opera is excited to announce the next production of its 2017/2018 season, Mozart's sparkling masterpiece, Cosi Fan Tutte, to be performed in English on February 9 at 7:30, February 10 at 1:30 and 7:30, and February 11 at 7:00 in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Performances will take place in the auditorium space of the historic Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
It wouldn't be "transgressive" if we didn't turn the piece on it's head, and Transgressive Theatre-Opera will transport Mozart's foolhardy characters from the early 19th century to modern day, from coloratura bravado to quietly spoken veracity.
TT-O has assembled some of the city's finest singing actors to shine a new light on a work that has previous been envisioned as a presumptive piece of misogyny, for surely it takes two to sexually tango, and when men set out to deceive by false wooing, sooner or later they will lose a piece of their own hearts as well
Bringing love's pupils to life will be sopranos Mary Lutz Govertsen, Jessie Lyons, Teaira Burge, and Celeste Peake, mezzo-sopranos Jori Johnson Jennings and Brittany Jeffery, tenors Ryan Townsend Strand and Matthew Peckham, baritones Noah Gartner, Jonathan Wilson, Steven Arvanites, and William Swain. Aaron Hunt directs, with musical direction by Sarah Jenks.
