Bailiwick Chicago presents Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA. Preview performances began July 1, with opening night scheduled for July 10, at American Theater Company's space located at1909 W. Byron in Chicago.
"This promises to be the musical theater event of the summer," said Mayes, "and we are so excited to bring this amazing production to Chicago audiences. The cast, the music, the design, the direction, and the choreography will blow audiences away. With only a five-week run, I only wish we could run the show longer."
AIDA tells the story of a high-ranking Egyptian soldier, engaged to the Pharaoh's daughter and next in line for the throne, who falls in love with the Nubian slave Aida. When he discovers that she is the daughter of the King of Nubia, each is forced to choose between love for country and love for each other. With a driving pop-rock score by Elton John, the story challenges audiences to consider the question: What would you sacrifice for eternal love?
