Three Cat Productions celebrates Chicago based performers with Cabaret on the Lake. Cabaret on the Lake is a free, monthly variety show giving singers, storytellers, comedians, performance artists, musicians, dancers, poets, and solo artists of every type a place to develop their work. Held the 2nd Friday of the month at the Berger Park Cultural Center (6205 N Sheridan Road), experienced performers split the bill with artists learning their craft or trying new material for the first time. This month's event will be held on Friday, October 9 at 7:30pm. Tickets are free. Hosted by Rob Dorn - singer, storyteller, national Broadway musical theater tour veteran, and Green Mill regular.
Chances are good Cabaret on the Lake will show you something or someone you've never seen before. October's Cabaret on the Lake features outstanding performers including Nester Gomez, Mister E Machine, Francesca Peppiatt, Sheri Reda, and William David Sherman.
Nestor Gomez was born in Guatemala and moved to Chicago about twenty five years ago. He is a self taught poet and writer, t-shirt designer for Threadless, who works for S&C in the Quality Control department and drives for Uber and Lyft during the weekends. He currently resides in Edgewater with his girlfriend sweet Mel, Melissa Pavlik and their two pit bulls. Nestor has being telling stories in Chicago for a little over a year, during that time he has won the Moth Slam five times (one of them in Milwaukee) he also won the Chicago Moth Grand Slam on March 2015 and placed second at the Chicago Moth Grand Slam July 2015. Nestor has told stories all over Chicago, including The Green Mill, Here Chicago, Easy Fiesta, Story Club north and South side, The Stoop, Sunday Morning Stories, This much is true, Story Lab and many other storytelling events. He also co-host Do Not Submit a storytelling event in Pilsen.
Mister E Machine is an Indie Band with a rainbow twist from Chicago that combines acoustic rock with indie/pop elements to create a layered rock sound. A key element of the sound is its textured vocal harmonies and personal lyrics that delve into the emotional, mental, and spiritual journeys of the human experience. Songwriter Manny Capozzi and Producer Chuck Harling have joined forces to complete the band's debut project SHOOTING STARS, a 7 song EP recorded at KingSize Studios.
Francesca Peppiatt is a writer and performer who lives with her husband, writer Douglas Tonks, in Chicago. She received an Emmy nomination for her writing on Country Notes, an entertainment news magazine show on The Nashville Network (TNN). Her other television work includes production stints with TV icons Dick Clark, Love Connection, and Hee Haw. She has also appeared on The Paula Poundstone Show with Paula and Lily Tomlin, on The Rosie O'Donnell Show as part of the "Rosie look-a-like" audience, and tap-dancing in a film choreographed by Twyla Tharp. Trained with Second City in Santa Monica. In Chicago, Francesca performed in Tony'n'Tina's Wedding, Lust'n'Rust: The Trailer Park Musical, and numerous other productions in Chicago. Francesca is the Producing Artistic Director of Stockyards Theatre Project, playwright, actor, the author of 4 books and is currently writing the book and lyrics for an upcoming musical.
Sheri Reda is a writer, editor, Master Life-Cycle Celebrant, Children's librarian, storyteller, and frequent host at her family's Topo Gigio Restaurant, in Old Town. Her written work has appeared most recently in Spirits Quarterly, American Book Review, Progressive Populist, HQPoetry Quarterly, Oregon Literary Review, and enough textbooks to make your brain hurt. She has shared poems and stories and other performance pieces at many venues, including Czar Bar, Bop Shop, Soup and Bread, All She Wrote, Reading Under the Influence, Essay Fiesta, Here's the Story, The Skald, Storylab, This Much is True, Story Sessions, Tuesday Funk, The Funny Story Show, and the NeoFuturarium.
William David Sherman is a singer, composer, actor, writer and recovering fitness junkie. He has studied improvisation at I.O. and Second City. He wasted his youth touring the country with the world's greatest mambo rock band. He is currently wasting his time performing with The Swing Shift Orchestra and his original glam-pop band, The Steak House Mints. He has written a children's book and for a variety of live productions. He is currently writing a musical. His hobbies include waiting patiently and punctuation?
Host Rob Dorn most recently appeared as Jacey Squires and top tenor in the Barbershop Quartet in Paramount Theatre's critically acclaimed production of "The Music Man." He has performed in hundreds of theaters across the country, including The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Hey City Stage, Minnesota Orchestra and Carnegie Hall. Locally he's worked with Silk Road, Three Cat Productions, Court Theatre, Wisdom Bridge, Apple Tree, Light Opera Works and Pegasus Players. He toured for many years with the pop vocal group, "Three Hits and a Miss" and currently sings with Alan Gresik's Swingshift Orchestra at Chicago's Green Mill. Rob is also an award winning Graphic Designer and Illustrator.
Three Cat Productions' 2015/16 season also includes the three main stage productions: Death in a Beulah Box by Barbara Wells, Holiday Stories by David Bald, Hope Hommersand, Susan Lieberman, Paul Moulton, Paul Pasulka, Lisa Scott, Fouad Teymour, Helen Valenta, and Joe Weintraub, and At Mister Kelly's by Gary Gimmestad and Jason Paul Smith. The season also includes the 2016 Chicago New Work Festival running January 11 to February 6, 20116. And two monthly events Cabaret on the Lake and the monthly new play reading series, Next Draft. All events are held at Berger Park.
