Theo Ubique's warmly-received production of Aspects of Love, the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Don Black and Charles Hart, will be extended through Sunday, May 19, 2013. Theo Ubique Artistic Director Fred Anzevino announced the extension on Monday, April 1.
Performances during the four-week extension will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 7 pm.
The Chicago Tribune's Chris Jones said: "Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre continues its remarkably consistent run...," "a beautifully sung non-Equity production."
Hedy Weiss of the Chicago Sun-Times said: "Theo Ubique just plunges in, with fearless director Fred Anzevino bringing together a cast of expert singer-actors, a band that sounds like a symphony orchestra, a couple of memorably feverish dance sequences, a fine array of vintage costumes, and more kissing than you will find on any other stage in town."
The Chicago Reader's Jack Helbig praised the performances, stating that singers Kelli Harrington, Colette Todd, and Rochelle Therrien "(set the stage on fire whenever they're on it."
The musical explores a series of intersecting love triangles and relationships among an English painter, his young nephew, a French actress, the painter's Italian mistress and the daughter of the painter and actress. The sung-through musical includes the song "Love Changes Everything."
Theo Ubique's Aspects of Love is directed by Artistic Director Fred Anzevino and features some of Chicago's most exciting new musical theater talents, all of whom will remain in the production through the extension. Rose Vibert, the actress who becomes romantically involved with both the painter and his nephew, is played by Kelli Harrington. Harrington won rave reviews and a Jeff Award for her leading role in Theo's 2012 The Light in the Piazza. Collette Todd, a sensation as Aldonza in Man of La Mancha and Nancy in Oliver! for Light Opera Works, is the mistress Giulietta.
The male leads are Sean Thomas as the painter George and Matthew Keffer as his nephew Alex. Thomas, a veteran of the New York theatre scene and many national tours, is a company member of BoHo Theatre Ensemble, where he played Pap, the King and Silas in Big River. Keffer was Joe in The Spitfire Grill and Starbuck in The Rainmaker, both also for BoHo.
The supporting cast includes Daniel Waters (Marcel), Rochelle Therrien (Jenny), William Lucas (Hugo), Jamie Finkenthal (Elizabeth), and Adam Fane and Stephanie Hansen (ensemble). Choreography is by James Beaudry, music direction by Jeremy Ramey, costumes by Bill Morey and lighting design by Michael Vardulli and Adam Veness.
Aspects of Love is performed at the No Exit Café, 6970 N Glenwood Avenue, Chicago. Tickets (which include dinner packages at some price levels) are $30-$64. Dinner packages are included at some of the higher price levels.
