Theatre-Hikes presents William Shakespeare's The Tempest at The Morton Arboretum, 4100 IL Rte 53, Lisle, Ill., on Saturdays and Sundays at 1PM from tonight, September 8-30. Directed and edited by Thrisa Hodits, this production takes place where the play is set, in nature, and focuses on the magic, romance and music involved in telling this famous story.
Featuring new music composed and directed by David Kornfeld of Underscore Theater Company. The 14 roles are portrayed by a 10-person cast, three of which accompany the show on numerous instruments as sprites of the island; Ariel, Ceres and Iris. The cast includes Chicago based actors: Anu Bhatt, Matt Gieschen, Kelly Lynn Hogan, Carl Lindberg, Naomi Lindh, Mike Mazzocca, Rachel Tietz, Patricia Tinsley, Paul Tinsley, and David Wilhelm.
Prospero and his daughter are shipwrecked on an island and must make do with what they have. Prospero discovers the magic of the island in particular; two magic creatures, Caliban and Ariel, who he uses for his own personal gain. This story starts when another ship is crashed upon the island and we follow what happens when this crew encounters the island, it's spirits, the old man and his daughter and are challenged by the magic that Prospero commands. The Tempest has recently gained popularity being made into a movie starring Helen Mirren as Prospera and playing on the Chicago Shakespeare Stage. Experience the magic of nature all around us at The Morton Arboretum in this wonderful tale.
