The Shakespeare Project of Chicago Presents World Premiere Holiday Show Featuring Shakespeare Himself DREAM UPON AVON Image

The Shakespeare Project of Chicago presents the world premiere of John Kishline's DREAM UPON AVON in theatrical readings Dec. 15 and 16 at the Niles-Maine District Library and Newberry Library, respectively.

"'Tis Chrismas Eve and wild is Avon's night
i' The Windmill Inn, this well-worn quaffing place
a furlong from my bed."

It is Christmas Eve at the Windmill Inn, Shakespeare's favorite pub in Stratford-Upon-Avon. While the Bard quaffs his favorite beverage at his usual table, he encounters a series of visitors, each with an unrealized dream and unanswered questions. As things turn out, the Bard has some questions, too, for his visitors, as both playwright and guests discover the true meaning of Christmas. Based on an actual performance of The Shakespeare Project of Chicago.

Artistic Director Peter Garino directs a cast that includes Jeff Christian, Deborah Clifton, Gary Houston, John Kishline and Barbara Zahora.

The production features music and sound design by George Zahora.

Admission is free and seating is limited. All performances are preceded by an introduction to the play that commences 15 minutes prior to curtain.

  • Fri., Dec. 15, 7 p.m., Niles Public Library, 6960 W. Oakton St., Niles (registration required, 847-663-1234)
