The House Theatre of Chicago presented the first-annual fundraising benefit, The Secret Soirée, on Saturday March 23rd in the Empire Room at The Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago. The magic-filled event raised $63,000 in support of The House's 11th season of artistic programming.

Celebrating an extraordinary year of magic-filled productions at The House, 115 guests enjoyed a performance of magic and mind-reading from Company Member and third-generation magician Dennis Watkins. Designed specifically for this special evening, Watkins performed a program of tricks and feats that gave guests the opportunity to pledge donations as a part of the performance.

The organization enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive response from regular philanthropists in attendance not only to the magic but also to the unique and innovative fundraising method. Many became first-time donors to the company, and even more increased their giving. The House Theatre plans to reprise the event next season.
