The New Colony continues its 2013-14 season with the irreverent world premiere comedy ORVILLE AND WILBUR DID IT! by David Zellnik, directed by Co-Artistic Director Andrew Hobgood, playing June 13 - July 20, 2014 at Signal Ensemble Theatre, 1802 W. Berenice Ave. in Chicago. The production also includes several songs by David Zellnik and Eric Svejcar. Tickets go on sale Monday, May 5, 2014 at www.thenewcolony.org. The press performance is Tuesday June 17 at 7:30 pm.
ORVILLE AND WILBUR DID IT! features Alex Grelle, Evan Linder, Jessica London Shields, Morgan McNaught, Josh Odor, Joey Romaine and Kevin Stangler.
ORVILLE AND WILBUR DID IT! follows the lives, loves, sadnesses, ecstasies, hopes, fears and egos of five actors and a stage manager in a van doing a non-Equity, 58-city tour across America - as they perform a children's musical about the Wright Brothers. There will be inappropriate hook-ups, terribly meaningful conversations, stolen credit cards and booze. Children's theatre!
"When we founded the company in 2008, our hope was to reach a point where playwrights from across the country would bring their ideas to Chicago to develop under the New Colony Process. Working with David Zellnik has been such a tremendous experience and we are more committed than ever to helping playwrights nationally to bring their ideas to life," comments Co-Artistic Director Andrew Hobgood.
"I love working the New Colony way. I had the idea for this play years ago but it was Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder's excitement at the pitch, and then the so-funny-my-cheeks-hurt days of structured improvs that really made the play come alive. I am so proud of this whole process and crazy excited to share this play with Chicago," adds playwright David Zellnik.
