The LIVINGroom presents a one-night only performance of the solo show I Come From Hoarders by actor/playwright/storyteller Carly Jo Geer on September 13 at 7:00 pm in the Cabaret Theater at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago. Tickets are $10, $7 for students with valid ID, and are available at the box office and at http://stage773.com, or 773-327-5252.

Have you ever watched the reality show Hoarders? Carly Jo Geer's new solo show tells such a tale, but without the flash of cameras or editing for entertainment. Hers is the real story of what it's like to grow up in a family who are hoarders but also - just like any other family - fight and love, grow and get sick, live and pass away.

Geer wants audiences to leave the theatre knowing that they're not alone, regardless of where they've come from. "I think it's important that people realize that everyone's family is 'crazy' - we all have skeletons in our closet and we don't have to be afraid of them. It's okay to be yourself."

"This is unlike any show I've worked on," comments director Bec Willett. "The LIVINGroom's style of performance is a combination of storytelling and theatre, but most importantly is always based in authenticity. Carly's ability to access and develop difficult content from her past is admirable; her fearlessness has created a show that is funny, engaging, and smart."

Carly Jo Geer received her BA in Acting from Columbia College Chicago where she first learned how to write and perform solo theatre pieces. Since graduating, Carly has become an ensemble member with The LIVINGroom. When not writing and performing her own work on stage, Carly enjoys voiceover acting and will soon be heard as the voice for Revlon's Amazon product videos. She is also currently in the rehearsal process for MPAACT's production of Starting Over which will tour various colleges around Indiana and Western Illinois.

Bec Willett is an Australian, Chicago-based director, designer, critic and playwright. With a passion for driving theatre beyond the traditional, particularly when it comes to new work, she has directed with an array of Chicago theatre companies, including Chicago Dramatists, City Lit, Dandelion Theatre, Prologue Theatre, The Residents (site-specific theatre), and Waltzing Mechanics. Bec is an alum of Directors Lab West and a writer for PerformInk. To find out more about her work and upcoming projects, please visit becwillett.com.
