Patrons are invited to join The House Theatre of Chicago and award-winning Chicago magician Dennis Watkins in a private suite at the historic Palmer House Hilton for an elegant evening of mind-boggling magic and mentalism. Guests will convene at the hotel's Potter's Lounge at 10:15 before being escorted to a private suite for a 90-minute performance, concluding at midnight with a champagne toast.
The only thing that could make this one-of-a-kind show more unique is its introduction to such a phenomenal venue. The Palmer House's private suite offers only 36 guests the opportunity to be up close and personal with one of Chicago's most acclaimed magicians as they ring in the New Year with elegance, wonder, and laughter.
THE MAGIC PARLOUR: An intimate evening of classic magic with Dennis Watkins at the Palmer House Hilton will take place December 31, 2011 at 10:15 pm. All tickets are $100 at www.thehousetheatre.com or by phone at 773.769.3832.
In September of 2010, The House Theatre of Chicago hosted a benefit performance with entertainer and House Company Member Dennis Watkins. The event was such a hit that The House decided to produce The Magic Parlour for a limited run. After selling out week after week, The Magic Parlour became a weekly event and currently runs every Friday night at The Chopin Theatre (1543 W. Division).
Dennis Watkins carries awards and honors from the Texas Association of Magicians, the Society of American Magicians, the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Desert Magic Seminar. He travels the US performing for some of the country's biggest companies, as well as colleges and universities from coast to coast. More information about Watkins is available at www.denniswatkins.net.The House is Chicago's premier home for original works of physical and spectacle storytelling. Founded and led by Artistic Director Nathan Allen and driven by an interdisciplinary ensemble of Chicago’s next generation of great storytellers, The House aims to become a laboratory and platform for the evolution of the American theatre as an inclusive and popular artform.
The House was founded in 2001 by a group of friends to explore connections between Community and Storytelling through a unique theatrical experience. In 2002 The House was hailed by the Chicago press as “The Next Big Thing.” In early 2007, following dozens of world premiere productions, and national attention from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Variety, and American Theatre Magazine, The House achieved even greater success with “The Sparrow,” which Chicago Tribune theater critic Chris Jones called, “Among the very best original theater pieces I’ve ever seen.”
Since becoming eligible in 2004, The House has been nominated for 45 Joseph Jefferson Awards (17 wins) and became the first recipient of Broadway in Chicago’s Emerging Theater Award in 2007. Now celebrating its 10th year of original work, The House continues its mission to unite Chicago in the spirit of Community through amazing feats of Storytelling.
