The House Theatre of Chicago has announced that it will not be producing Ellen Bond, Union Spy in the spring of 2018. The project has been in development with the company since early 2016 and was to conclude its 2017-18 season.

Artistic Director and founder, Nathan Allen, remarked, "Our Company Members, Staff, and Board were very proud to commission this project and work with the creative team on its development over the last two years." Allen continued, "We hold deep respect for the creative team behind Ellen Bond, and believe the story of this incredible hero should be heard."

The House's 2017-18 season production schedule at the Chopin Theatre venue will continue with the annual family holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, running now through December 30, and will conclude with Hatfield & McCoy, running January 19 through March 11, 2018.

The Magic Parlour will continue its open run at the Palmer House, and programs in development will continue throughout the summer of 2018 at UChicago Performance Lab.

The company's 2018-19 season will be announced in late spring, and programming by The House in residence at the Chopin Theatre will resume in the fall.

The House is Chicago's premier home for intimate, original works of epic story and stagecraft. Founded and led by Artistic Director Nathan Allen and driven by an interdisciplinary ensemble of Chicago's next generation of great storytellers, The House aims to become a laboratory and platform for the evolution of the American theatre as an inclusive and popular artform.

The House was founded in 2001 by a group of friends to explore connections between Community and Storytelling through a unique theatrical experience. Since becoming eligible in 2004, The House has been nominated for 70 Joseph Jefferson Awards (22 wins), became the first recipient of Broadway in Chicago's Emerging Theater Award in 2007, and was awarded a 2014 National Theatre Company Grant by the American Theatre Wing, founder of the Tony Awards. The 16th year of original work is underway and The House continues it mission to unite Chicago in the spirit of Community through amazing feats of Storytelling.
