The Fifty/50 To Host Second Annual National 40oz Week 6/28-7/4

Wicker Park's The Fifty/50 (2047 W Division St), recently voted "The Best Sports Bar In America" by Yahoo! and Thrillist, will celebrate its second annual "National 40oz Week" from Monday, June 28 through Sunday, July 4 featuring discounted 40s & other drink specials, parties, and special events.

Known for its rotating 40oz of the week served in a brown paper bag and its scratch-made comfort food, The Fifty/50 will feature a different 40oz-er each day/night during "National 40oz Week" for just $5 (normally $8) and a different standout event each day/night like the Colt 45 "Works Every Time" launch party, a sit-down dinner where each of the four courses are paired with different sommelier selected 40oz pours, an old school hip hop basement party DJ'ed by Sye Young, The Fifty/50 Ultimate Eating Challenge (50 menu items. 50 minutes. $50. $500 prize), and a fundraiser where ALL of drink specials proceeds will be donated to The Greater New Orleans Foundation's Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund and the donation will be matched by Chicagoland native and Super Bowl champion running back Pierre Thomas of the New Orleans Saints.

Background on America's Most Patriotic Beverage aka The 40: Malt liquor was created by Midwesterners in the late '30s shortly after the Prohibition repeal that finally gave Americans access to a stronger brew for less money. Malt liquor jumped into the America's consciousness in 70s thanks to Redd Foxx as pitchman and appearances in blaxploitation films. In the '80s, Billy Dee Williams made the 40oz an icon. The 40 was the rapper beverage of choice in the early 90s. Present day, the malt liquor 40oz-er is mainstay for college students and young professionals.

The Heckler, "a fearless, award-winning Chicago-based publisher of unbelievable sports news" will throw an exclusive party on The Fifty/50's mezzanine level honoring famous Mickeys ranging from ex-Cub Mickey Morandini to Mickey "You're Gonna Eat Lightning and You're Gonna Crap Thunder" Goldmill from the Rocky movies.

The Fifty/50 will unveil "The Fifty/50 Ultimate Eating Challenge" where patrons and aspiring competitive eaters will have a shot at taking down 50 menu items in 50 minutes or less for a cost of $50. There will be a $500 cash prize for fastest finishing time in 50 minutes or less. The menu will be 30 Buffalo Chicken Wings, 5 Strips of House-Smoked Bacon, 5 Onion Rings, "Triple Secret Burger" Slider, Turkey Burger Slider, Pulled Pork Slider, Meatball Slider, Double D.
