The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago Announces Summer Dance Classes

The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago is offering opportunities for studying a range of dance styles and techniques through its Summer Dance Intensive May 29–July 21 at The Dance Center, 1306 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago. Registration deadline is May 11, 2012.

From June 4 to 14, funkamentals, a workshop taught by artist/educator
d. Sabela grimes, introduces groove-oriented hip-hop dance technique, vocabulary, cultural accents, movement principles, muscle control and body alignment. funkamentals is designed to explore the fundamental body mechanics that narrate the soulful dynamics realized in a variety of African American/Afro-diasporic social/trendy/popular dance practices.

Gallim Dance company dancer Caroline Fermin teaches a Galim Dance repertory workshop from June 25 to July 6, providing students with insight on the artistic evolution involved in the rehearsal process of Gallim Dance and the opportunity to learn Gallim founder/choreographer Andrea Miller's choreography.

Full (eight-week) courses are available in Modern and Ballet Technique, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi Chuan, dancemaking and more. Beginning to advanced level classes taught by renowned Dance Center faculty members and special guest artists are available for college credit or for non-credit community enrollment.
