The Auditorium Theatre's 2013 - 14 Season opens October 4 with Ballet West. Artistic Director Adam Sklute returns to Chicago with the company's production of "Sleeping Beauty" as well as their signature performance of "The Lottery" performed in conjunction with the theatre's annual Gala on October 6. On November 9, audiences are introduced to a new wave of popular Israeli music with "The Idan Raichel Project," whose albums have become the biggest-selling records in Israeli history. Audiences are then treated to one of the greatest folkloric dance groups when the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble comes to the Landmark Stage on November 22. "Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah," the joyful, exuberant and all-American version of Handel's beloved oratorio, returns to the Auditorium for the ninth year in celebration of the Rev. DR. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, with performances January 18 - 19, 2014.
After continued success in Chicago, "America's cultural ambassador to the world," Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is back for 10 performances February 28 - March 9. Under the direction of Robert Battle, Alvin Ailey celebrates the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of American modern dance while bringing audiences to their feet each and every time. Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan takes the stage March 14 and 16 with "Songs of the Wanderers," exploring Asian heritage while bringing a true spiritual pilgrimage to the Auditorium stage. On March 22 - 23, audiences are taken on a journey as Houston Ballet makes their full company Chicago debut with "Aladdin."
Spring at the Auditorium features jazz pianist Chick Corea and banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck in a momentous collaboration on April 5. River North Dance Chicago returns to the Landmark Stage on April 12 with a world premiere performance showcasing the company's athletic, sensual versatility. Capping off the eclectic season is the heralded Paul Taylor Dance Company, May 17-18, whose leader, Paul Taylor, continues to inspire contemporary dance while captivating audiences around the world.
