TAKE ME TO THE RIVER NEW ORLEANS LIVE Comes To The MAC  Image

The "Take Me To The River: New Orleans LIVE" tour comes to the McAninch Arts Center, located at 425 Fawell Blvd. on the campus of College of DuPage, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.This performance will be the 3rd in a tour beginning Oct. 12 in Milwaukee and continuing through November through the Midwest and Northeast.

The tour is in celebration of a new film documentary due out later in 2018 on the rich musical history of the Crescent City. The "Take Me To The River: New Orleans" documentary is a follow-up to the 2014 documentary "Take Me To The River: Memphis," executive produced by Snoop Dogg and released on Netflix in 2016. That documentary was supported by a live concert tour in fall 2017 which included a sold-out performance at the MAC. Both documentaries were directed, produced, and written by the Grammy-nominated musician and famed feature-film producerMartin Shore.

"Take Me To The River: New Orleans LIVE" explores the influences on New Orleans' vibrant music scene and will feature performances from a multigenerational lineup of some of the city's best known artists:

Celebrating more than 40 years since their founding in 1977, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band has taken the traditional foundation of brass band music and incorporated it into a blend of genres including Bebop Jazz, Funk and R&B/Soul. This unique sound, described by the band as a 'musical gumbo,' has allowed the Dirty Dozen to tour across 5 continents and more than 30 countries, record 12 studio albums and collaborate with a range of artists from Modest Mouse to Widespread Panic to Norah Jones. Forty-plus years later, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band is a world-famous music machine whose name is synonymous with genre- bending romps and high-octane performances.

Ivan and Ian Neville from Dumpstaphunk: Hailed by the New York Times as "the Best Funk Band in New Orleans" and Rolling Stone as "New Orleans' most prestigious modern funk ensembles," Dumpstaphunk members, Ivan and Ian Neville stand out among New Orleans' best. Descended from Neville family bloodlines, their performances combine ingenious musicianship and complex funk and jazz arrangements with soulful melodies that are simple enough for anyone to enjoy.

Winner of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, bassist George Porter Jr. of the Meters is one of the most important figures in New Orleans music and in the funk movement. During the course of a career spanning more than four decades, Porter Jr. has made a deep impression with his work in the Meters and an impressive list of session work with artists as diverse as Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett, David Byrne, Patti LaBelle, Robbie Robertson Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Warren Haynes and John Scofield among others. Early in his career, Porter Jr. worked with seminal New Orleans artists like Allen Toussaint, Earl King, Lee Dorsey, and Johnny Adams, Irma Thomas, The Lastie Brothers.

Joseph Pierre "Big Chief Monk" Boudreaux is the leader of the Golden Eagles, a Mardi Gras Indian tribe of New Orleans. Born in New Orleans on Pearl Harbor Day, Boudreaux has distinguished himself as a gifted folk artist and dynamic performing musician through his unwavering dedication to this singular African American culture. Boudreaux's musical career has seen him perform in the world's finest concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Boudreaux has recorded several critically acclaimed albums and has appeared as a guest musician on numerous recordings. In 1982, he performed with rock legend Robbie Robertson on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." More recently, Boudreaux portrayed himself in several episodes of HBO's original series "Treme."

Lost Bayou Ramblers was formed in 1999 by brothers Andre and Louis Michot, performing the roots Cajun music they learned as members of the family band their father and uncles formed in the '80s. The brothers quickly began playing clubs and festivals around Louisiana, and taking the traditional music they were raised with to new levels They continue to integrate new sonic elements to their live performances, always experimenting and growing for a sound today that is an eclectic mix of modern sounds and rhythms with ancient Cajun melodies and lyrics. Produced by Korey Richey (LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire) their latest studio album, Kalenda, was released in 2017 on Rice Pump Records.

79rs Gang features Jermaine Bossier, chief of the 7th Ward Creole Hunter gang, and Romeo Bougere, chief of the 9th Ward Hunter gang. Once rivals, they now come together to make music. Regulars at the legendary Tipitina's and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, they have also performed with the Stooges and Papa Mali.

As a boy, Terence Higgins was introduced to the drums by his great grandfather and in high school, was one of two students chosen from Louisiana to perform in the McDonald's All-American Band. After high school he enrolled in music studies at Southern University and eventually decided to pursue a career in the music business. Higgins credits George Porter Jr. for taking him under his wing and introducing him to the vast repertoire of New Orleans music. Higgins' professional career has taken him all over the world and he has played with an impressive roster of musicians including Dr. John, Earl King, Fats Domino, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins, Johnny Adams, The Wild Magnolias, Norah Jones, Ani DiFranco, DJ Logic, Robert Randolph, The Black Crows, North Mississippi All-Stars, among others.

"Take Me to the River: New Orleans LIVE!" comes to the McAninch Arts Center, located at 425 Fawell Blvd. on the campus of College of DuPage, Sunday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $47-$65.
