have No plans for New Years Eve yet?  Well, now you do

Steve Cochran’s Annual New Years Eve Comedy and Music Spectacular for People Who Can’t Stay Up Past Midnight returns to Elgin’s Hemmens Cultural Center for one great show before you wake up in 2009.

This year’s comedy Headliner Rocky LaPorte, along with musical guest Ron Hawking, make what WGN Radio’s afternoon drive-time man Steve Cochran claims is “our strongest show yet. Normally Ron would have his own New Years spectacular, so we feel fortunate he piped in.”

Says Hawking, “I’m in the middle of launching my new show The Men and Their Music, so it worked out. I’m jazzed. Steve Cochran is my favorite bald radio drive time host.”

Cochran adds, “Given this economy we think it’s important to have a New Years offering that won’t break the bank.” Cochran explains, “We’re like the Southwest Airlines of New Years Eve shows. No champagne or confetti, but we’ll get you there – and early!”

This year’s headliner Rocky LaPorte recently showcased his talents on Leno and performed last year on Letterman. He also had several offers to go elsewhere for the New Year, but when he found out he could entertain his local following and be home, he said, “I got into comedy so I could be lazy. Next year I’m going to ask Steve if I could do the show from my couch. That would be the only thing better than this.”

Says Steve Cochran, “You know, we’ve been at the Hemmens for five years now – it’s turning into quite a tradition. What‘s great about the Hemmens is the intimate seating in a large theatre venue – it’s perfect for this type of event.”

Five years ago, Tim Clue, a Chicago writer and comedian, approached Cochran – also a former comedian – and broached the idea of a clean comedy New Year’s Eve show that wouldn’t break the bank. “I knew immediately it would be a success and told Clue I was going to claim it for myself,” jokes Cochran.

For a night of squeaky clean comedy and great music, join Cochran and friends at the Hemmens Cultural Center for their one and only early show beginning at 7:30 PM. It’s comedy, it’s music, it’s family-friendly, it’s Steve Cochran’s Annual New Year’s Eve Comedy and Music Spectacular for People Who Can’t Stay Up Past Midnight!
