Something Marvelous, Chicago's annual magical realism festival, announces their 2016 full length production DON'T LOOK by Gina Doherty. This world premiere production, directed by Artistic Director Emmi Hilger, will run June 17th to July 3rd at the Den Theatre.
DON'T LOOK is a contemporary take on the classic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice and Orpheus love each other. They are 99% certain. But, Orpheus is definitely (100%) committed to his art, so where does that leave Eurydice? When a tragic accident gives her a fresh start, Eurydice must choose to stay with what's familiar or strike out on her own. A story about how we measure love, cope with doubt, and cling to whatever we can, DON'T LOOK is a fresh take on the myth, told through memory, technology, and poetry.
The cast includes Allyce Torres (Eurydice), Zachery Alexander (Orpheus) and Rebecca Flores (Persephone.) Visit www.SomethingMarvelous.org for more info.
The festival will kick off their 2016 season with ORIGINS: a dinner and Night of New Works fundraiser. The festival will host the event at the Den Theatre, Monday April 25th with dinner at 7PM and performances at 8PM. Tickets for the evening are $15 for dinner and the show!
Featuring new plays by MT Cozzola, Sean Douglass, Dana Lynn Formby, Isaac Gomez, Laura Nessler, Marisela Treviño Orta, and Juan Villa. Directed by Billy Bullion, Monty Cole, Brent Eickhoff, Aaron Mays, Laura Nash, and Lexi Saunders.
