What does privacy mean in the digital age? P3M5 is a groundbreaking transatlantic theater project featuring 5-Minute Plays from such renowned playwrights as: Philip Kan Gotanda, Kenneth Lin, Rachida Lamrabet, and Marioan Hosseini. Presented in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Washington, D.C., and theatre companies across the U.S. and Europe, the collection aims to create an artistic and cultural dialogue around our divergent understandings of privacy in North America and Europe.

Statement from Jamil Khoury, Chief Programming Officer & Mission Trustee
"Over the past two decades, many Americans have come to view privacy as a commodity with diminishing returns. We've exchanged privacy for elusive notions of community and friendship. What was once deemed personal and sacrosanct-medical records, bank statements, credit reports, tax returns, college transcripts-are but one leak away from the public domain. But not every country is as resigned to "transparency" as ours. Germany, for one, remembers a time when personal information was used as a weapon in the government's arsenal; as a result, Germans of today are extremely protective of personal data.
The short plays selected for P3M5 shed light on a whole spectrum of meanings ascribed to "privacy," as experienced around the world. Silk Road Rising is honored to serve as the Chicago partner in this global roll-out of provocative new stories."
