Same Planet Different World Dance Theatre (SPDW), led by artistic director JoAnna Rosenthal Read, is a Chicago-based contemporary dance ensemble that has built a strong reputation for work that is evocative, entertaining and engaging.

SPDW has received critical acclaim for its varied repertory and powerful performers. SPDW presents the choreography of artists from across the country, both seasoned veterans as well as up-and-coming innovators, with styles that range from classical to post-modern dance. The diverse spectrum of work can range from humorous satire to high-octane virtuosity, but never ceases to delight audiences with performances that are dynamic and inspiring.

This season premieres Rosenthal- Read's new work Honey at Dovetail Studios. Four dance artists' combined physicality constructs a familiar environment where movement is meaning. Honey pours slowly taking audiences from casual intimacy into the allure of narcissistic pleasure. Using 1970's disco as a source of inspiration, Honey plays within a queer space open to excess, risk, freedom, and fantasy. Disco becomes the gateway drug, transitioning the dancers into modern movement fueled by memory. Honey will introduce four new dancers to Same Planet: Kate Kislingbury, Michelle Girodanelli, Michael O'Neil, and Christopher Knowlton. This artistic team's individual character and combined chemistry brings flavor to Honey. Same Planet's creative team includes Andrew Edwards composing original soundscapes and costume design by long time collaborator Vin Reed, lighting by Josh Weckesser.

Performances of Honey begin December 2nd at Dovetail Studios, 2853 W. Montrose Ave.
