The Saint Sebastian Players conclude the 2009-10 season in their church-basement performance space with a fun-loving musical about nuns putting on a show in a church basement-Nunsense, with book, music and lyrics by Dan Goggin. Performances are April 30-May 23 at St. Bonaventure, 1625 W. Diversey, Chicago.
In Nunsense, the Little Sisters of Evanston are putting on a fundraiser performance to clean up after a disaster. Fifty-two sisters died from drinking Sister Julia's soup but they only had enough money to bury 48 (the other four are in the freezer). Mother Superior and her order of eccentric and endearing nuns show the lighter side of being Catholic, featuring song, dance, laughter, prizes and surprises.
Making her directing debut is SSP member Kelly Rhyne, who appeared in SSP's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The cast includes Barbara Berndt, Sydney Charles, Alisa Marier, Molly McCormick and Michelle Ziccarelli. Music director is SSP associate member Barbara Murphy-Sanders, choreographer/assistant director is Natalia Formisano, Pauline Glinka is costumer and SSP members Jim Masini and Steven Walanka are producers.
Nunsense runs April 30-May 23, 2010 at St. Bonaventure, 1625 W. Diversey, at Marshfield just west of Ashland, in Chicago. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Free parking is available in two lots. Full-priced single tickets are $15, $10 for students with valid IDs and $7 for seniors and children younger than 12. Group rates also are available.
