The Marriott Theatre for Young Audiences, 10 Marriott Drive in Lincolnshire, presents the live musical production of the Emmy Award-winning 1970's cartoon, Schoolhouse Rock Live! now through May 4. The musical is directed by the original co-creator of the show, George Keating, with choreography by Ericka Mac and music direction by Ryan T. Nelson. The beloved musical teaches history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever and tuneful songs. BroadwayWorld brings you highlights from the show below!
Schoolhouse Rock Live! Is the story of Tom, a nervous school teacher who learns how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as "Just A Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction." The original "Schoolhouse Rock" television series was the brainchild of an advertising executive who noticed his son could remember all the words to popular songs on the radio, but could not memorize the multiplication tables. He then realized that if important educational information was coupled with exciting animation and catchy music, children would be able to learn and retain it.
From this simple idea, "Schoolhouse Rock" was born and quickly adopted by ABC-TV. Twenty years, 41 songs, and four Emmy Awards later, a nation that grew up with "Schoolhouse Rock" can still sing the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and know that "and," "but," and "or" all belong in Conjunction Junction.
The cast of Schoolhouse Rock Live! includes Brian Bohr as "Tom", Jackson Evans as "Joe", Zachary Gray as "George", Holly Stauder as "Dina", Rose Le Tran as "Shulie", and Brandi Wooten as "Dori".
