An affectionate paean to Smalltown, U.S.A., of a bygone era, Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize - despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. But his plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the town librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.

The company will welcome several special guests for opening night on Aug. 4, including Champaign Mayor Don Gerard, several founding members of CUTC, and a representative from the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT).

"The Music Man" is under the direction of Amy Stoch, with choreography by Whitney Havice and music by Aaron Kaplan, featuring the talents of over 100 local cast, crew and musicians.
