In a move quite fitting for a play based on a book by one of the most famed novelists of all time, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company is teaming up with Open Books, Ltd., during the previews of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey to help children around Chicago.

It's a natural combination, since Remy Bumppo is one of Chicago's most literary theatre companies and Open Books is an organization dedicated to improving literacy in the region. And Northanger Abbey is a particularly apt Jane Austen work for a book drive, since its heroine spends much of her time immersed in Gothic novels.

During the previews of Northanger Abbey, October 2-6, anyone bringing three used books (gently used, please - this is Jane Austen) to the Greenhouse Theater Center in the hour before curtain will be deemed a student for the day and admitted for the student rate of $15, subject to space availability,.Curtain times are 7:30pm Wed-Sat,, Oct. 2-5, and 2:30pm Sunday, Oct. 6.

Open Books is in particular need of children's books for its Book Worm Angels program, but all books are welcome, because they can sell them in their used-book store at 213 W. Institute Place, with all proceeds going to their programs.
