Saturday, August 5; 7:00 p.m.

$50/$55/$65/$75

Rachelle Ferrell is one of the most dynamic talents in contemporary pop music. Very few vocal artists in the industry have her potent combination of range, phrasing and musicianship. Ferrell began singing at the age of six, which many speculate contributed to the development of her multi-octave range. Ferrell first emerged in the states with her R&B debut Rachelle Ferrell (1992), a collection of self-penned originals that featured a striking duet with Will Downing, "Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This." It was with the release of First Instrument in 1994, recorded prior to Rachelle Ferrell, that audiences were really introduced to her jazz sensibilities. In addition to her solo albums, she has sung backup for Lou Rawls, Patti LaBelle, Vanessa Williams and George Duke, and continues to tour as a soloist.

Since the band's first full-length release in May of 2012, The Tanglewood Sessions, Boy Named Banjo has added two members: Sam McCullough (drums) and Abe Scott (bass). Tuesday, Aug 15; 7pm

$45/$50/$55/$60

In the spring of 1974, Max Weinberg saw a notice in the Village Voice that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were looking for a new drummer. He blew Springsteen away at an audition and was hired just as work began on Born to Run. It's impossible to imagine how that album would have sounded without Weinberg's taut pulse. When the E Street Band split in 1989, he found work as Conan O'Brien's bandleader, though when the band reformed in 1999, he managed to fit both jobs into his busy schedule. This summer, Weinberg goes on his own tour with a four-piece rock band - Max Weinberg's Jukebox. The group will take audience requests including hits from the Beatles, Springsteen, and the Rolling Stones, and tell short stories about Weinberg's connection to the song. A limited number of Meet and Greet tickets will be available for $150 each, and include a signed 8x10 drum head.

Augie Johnson, leader of the group Side Effect, happened to be in the audience; impressed with Howard's singing talent, Howard also joined the lineup of Side Effect in 1978 when another singer departed. She sang with Side Effect until 1982. Howard signed a contract with Atlantic Records in the mid-1980s and recorded her first solo album, "Come Share My Love", in 1986. The title track from the album was its first single, hitting the top ten of the R&B charts and reaching number five in late 1986. Howard has 10 studio albums and many top ten hits on the R&B Charts during her 35+ year career, as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Album for her album, Three Wishes. The album reveals Barnes' influences from '70s California musicians including Fleetwood Mac and Jackson Browne. An artist loved for his approachable and often hilarious nature, Barnes is actively involved in building into the Nashville community and using his experiences to help others however he can. From spearheading a monthly gathering of artists to mentoring younger musicians, he lives by the question, "What good is what you know unless you can share it with other people?" 12 years into his career which began at age 23, he's still full of limitless energy and an unrestrained expectation about the future.

John Gorka

Sunday, August 27; 7:30 p.m.

$20/$22/$25/$28

From New Jersey, John Gorka is a world-renowned singer-songwriter who got his start at a neighborhood coffeehouse in eastern Pennsylvania, Godfrey Daniels, which was and is one of the oldest and most venerable music institutions and has long been a hangout for music lovers and aspiring musicians. In the late 1970's, Gorka was one of these aspiring musicians. Although his academic coursework at Moravian College lay in Philosophy and History, music began to offer paramount enticements. Soon, he found himself living in the club's basement and acting as resident MC and sound man, encountering legendary folk troubadours like Canadian singer-songwriter Stan Rogers, Eric Andersen, Tom Paxton and Claudia Schmidt. Their brand of folk-inspired acoustic music inspired him and before long he was performing his own songs - mostly as an opener for visiting acts. Soon, he started traveling to New York City, where Jack Hardy's legendary Fast Folk circle (a breeding ground for many a major singer-songwriter) became a powerful source of education and encouragement. Folk meccas like Texas' Kerrville Folk Festival (where he won the New Folk Award in 1984) and Boston followed, and his stunningly soulful baritone voice and original songwriting began turning heads. Those who had at one time inspired him - Suzanne Vega, Bill Morrissey, Nanci Griffith, Christine Lavin, Shawn Colvin - have become his peers.

It's as deep, haunting, knowing, and beautiful as the Alabama woods they once called home. Their new duet record, Not Dark Yet, to be released August 18, offers a glimpse into their musical bond for the first time after years of trying to get it made at the right time. The album provides a potent look at their individual and collective artistry through eclectic song choices from writers ranging from the Louvin Brothers, Nick Cave, Kurt Cobain, and back to Jessie Colter. Not Dark Yet is not a creation, but rather a celebration of something that has always been, two voices becoming one and finding home within each other.
