Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's first Sherlock Holmes story, published in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887, introduces the "consulting detective" and his sidekick to each other, and to an adoring fan base that still thrives today. In this inaugural tale, Holmes and Watson pursue a mysterious murderer who writes, in blood, the word "Rache" (German for "revenge") on the wall above his victims.
A Study in Scarlet will run Friday, May 3 through Saturday, June 1 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave., Chicago. Performances will take place Thursday through Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 2pm. Opening night will be Saturday, May 4 at 8:00pm (the Friday, May 3 performance is a preview). For the convenience of the press, there is an additional performance on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:00pm. Tickets are $22 and can be purchased through athenaueumtheatre.org or by calling 773.935.6875.
