Promethean Theatre Ensemble announces a new programming initiative called Promethean Spark. The Spark project provides ensemble members with an opportunity to create and curate theatrical pieces that explore the boundaries of our mission statement of producing classic works with a modern twist.
Promethean Theatre Ensemble is proud to present the first iteration of the Promethean Spark project: "An Evening of Myths and Fables". As part of our tenth anniversary season, this year's Spark project is a small-scale test of this new initiative to pave the way for future productions as part of our regular season.
The performance consists of three short plays adapted from our unique interpretations of traditional myths, legends, and folk tales. Persephone (adapted and directed by guest artists Genevieve Lally and Erica Barnes) tells the story of a famous Greek myth through the perspective of three aspects of the title character's personality, exploring love, sex, fear, entrapment, and hope in the relationship between Persephone and Hades. Asgard and Utgard (adapted and directed by ensemble member Tom Murphy) is an adaptation of a portion of the Prose Edda that follows Norse gods Thor and Loki as they wrestle with defeat, reputation, power, and each other. Raven Steals the Light (adapted and directed by ensemble member Jared Dennis) tells an ancient story of the creation of the sun, moon, and stars from the traditions of various indigenous nations of the American Pacific Northwest. All three plays will be performed by ensemble members Nick Lake, Brendan Hutt, Heather Smith, Meghann Tabor, and Janeane Bowlware.
"An Evening of Myths and Fables" will perform on November 10 & 11, 2015 at the Uptown Underground (4707 N Broadway St, Chicago).
