Pride Films and Plays endeavors to enhance the visibility of women who write and offer them opportunities to be heard loud and clear. Or, in this case, loud and queer. The Women's Work contest consists of two components: Sapphics on Stage and Sapphics on Screen. Sapphics on Stage is a contest for work with lesbian characters, history, or themes for the theatre, including performance art or other performed pieces. Sapphics on Screen is a contest for work with lesbian characters, history, or themes for film and television.

The contests are open to all women whose writing is pertinent to the lesbian community and relevant to the world. Writers may submit two works for consideration. Contest finalists will receive a cash prize and a staged reading of their work in Chicago in June 2011. Applications are being accepted from February 1 through March 28, 2011.

For complete contest rules and applications, see the contest page at www.pridefilmsandplays.com.

Mission of Pride Films and Plays

Pride Films and Plays fosters excellent writing for the stage and screen that not only speaks to the GLBT community, but is essential viewing for our friends, family, and co-workers.

Pride Films and Plays, based in Chicago, links an international network of writers with professionals working in film and theater.

Through readings, contests, classes, screenings and full Theater Productions, Pride Films and Plays engages artists and audiences in the full developmental process needed to make great artistic experiences.

Our ultimate goal is to create a national center for great GBLT writing for the stage and screen, and be a conduit to the production of the winning films and plays.
