Poetry Is Productions presents the world premiere of "WILDE'S SALOMÉ: A STRIPTEASE", inspired by the play by Oscar Wilde. Press opening is March 25 at 9:00 pm at Gorilla Tango Theatre. "WILDE'S SALOMÉ" runs from March 18 (preview) through April 23 at Gorilla Tango, 1919 W. Milwaukee, Chicago, IL.
One of the Bible's most famous harlots comes to life through a new staging of the classic text, "Salomé" by Oscar Wilde. Developed into two operas, a film, and multiple other iterations, Wilde's "Salomé" shocked audiences with its bare portrayal of the titular character's feminine wiles, body, and inner life as she is forced to dance for King Herod. In this revamped modern adaptation, author/director Robert Eric Shoemaker joins choreographer/director Shelley DeHosse in a night of debauchery, sin, poetry, introspection, and redemption. Through burlesque and dance techniques, innovative staging and tech design, as well as a text designed to challenge the original by Oscar Wilde, "Wilde's Salomé: a striptease" will explore themes of feminism and empowerment, homosexuality, desire, and deadly passion.
Production staff includes Robert Eric Shoemaker (Deviser, Director, and Artistic Director), Shelley DeHosse (Deviser, Director), Przemyslaw Bosak (Sound Design), and Kathleen Qiu (Marketing Design).
Performances are Fridays at 9 PM on 3.18 and 3.25; Fridays and Saturdays at 7 PM 4.2 - 4.23. For tickets, visit GorillaTango.com or call (773) 598-4549. For more information, visit www.PoetryIs.org.
