American Theater Company (ATC), 1909 W. Byron Street, continues its 30th Anniversary season with the Chicago premiere of The Royale by Marco Ramirez, a writer of Marvel's Daredevil and Orange is the New Black. This newly revised script premieres in Chicago prior to its production at The Bush Theatre in London. The production is directed by ATC Ensemble Member Jaime Castañeda, newly appointed associate artistic director of La Jolla Playhouse, with a cast led by Jerod Haynes, who recently appeared in the critically acclaimed adaptation of Native Son at Court Theatre. The Royale runs now through March 29, 2015. Single tickets range from $43-$48 and are now on sale at the ATC box office at 773-409-4125 or www.atcweb.org.

Combining innovative theatricality with a blistering story, Marco Ramirez explores the rise of Jack Johnson, the world's first black heavyweight champion, and the sacrifices he makes to take his place in history. ATC Ensemble Member Jaime Castañeda (Welcome to Arroyo's) directs this Chicago premiere by Ramirez, writer of Marvel's Daredevil and Netflix's critically acclaimed Orange is the New Black. The cast of The Royale includes Jerod Haynes in the role of Jay, with Edwin Lee Gibson as Wynton, Mildred Marie Langford as Nina, Julian Parker as Fish, Philip Earl Johnson as Max, and ensemble members Eric Gerard and Jeffery Freelon.
