The Elegy Project has announced the Chicago premiere of Elegy, now through December 1, written by Ron Hirsen and directed by Dennis Zacek at the Richard Christiansen Theater at Victory Gardens Biograph, 2433 Lincoln Ave. Opening/press night is tonight, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a reception. Elegy, a moving story that weaves through time and location, from Kristallnacht in Berlin to contemporary New York, dramatizes the perpetual torment of Holocaust survivors, the anguish felt by their Jewish American children and the conflict that occurs with the clash between the two generations.
New York-based actor
David Wohl was recently cast to play the role of "Helmut." Wohl replaces
Greg Vinkler, who due to schedule conflicts is unable to perform in Elegy. Wohl was recently seen in Last Will by
Robert Brustein and directed by
Austin Pendleton at New York's Abingdon Theatre. Wohl was also in Golden Boy by
Clifford Odets and directed by
Bartlett Sher at
Lincoln Center Theater and in the recent Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof he played "Lazar Wolf." In addition to his theatrical work, Wohl has numerous film and television credits including Saving Private Ryan, Revenge of the Nerds, War of the Roses, Sophie's Choice, The Good Wife and Rescue Me among many others.
