Sara Jean Ford, who is currently starring as Christine Daae in the National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's, The Phantom Of The Opera, appeared at Davenport's Cabaret Bar on January 2, in her cabaret show "It's About Time," which served as a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Ford entertained audiences with stories tracing her career and shared the stage with Chicago-company Jersey Boys; Jarrod Spector, Drew Gehling and Jake Speck. Ford performed work by Elton John and Paul McCarntey, plus work of her accompanist Will Reynolds (along with collaborator Eric Price), who garnered critical acclaim for his performance of Curly in Oklahoma at the Light Opera Works. Reynolds compositions included "Purple Moon," adapted from a poem by Mattie Stapanek.
Ford was accompanied by Jenn Choi, who is the First Violinist for Phantom, Ryan West on guitar and Mike Ericson on percussion, both of whom are in the Jersey Boys company. The evening was produced and directed by Drew Gehling, (currently starring as Bob Gaudio in the Chicago-company of Jersey Boys). Gehling, Ford and Reynolds were in the same musical theatre class of 2005 at Carnegie Melon University.
